Arm, a British software design and semiconductor company, has reportedly announced a new strategic collaboration with Hexing, an electrical equipment company, to address the issue of IoT projects in their early implementation phase.
The company has turned its focus towards offering underlying IoT connectivity as well as management technologies, allowing its partners to create a leap through proof of concepts to a greater global scale. The company’s Arm Pelion IoT platform is delivering the building blocks needed to develop full-stack IoT solutions for consumers and also to expand to new markets. The Pelion IoT platform would be integrated with smart meters of Hexing as per the partnership between two companies.
Arm’s Pelion IoT platform is actively helping utilities and smart metering suppliers to install, link, safeguard, and manage their next-generation AMI (advanced metering infrastructure). Hexing is the latest example of this idea. The company is leveraging standard-based Wi-SUN compliant connectivity and Pelion Device Management, which would allow the company to enter emerging and new markets, like India, South East Asia, Europe, and South America, with their AMI solutions and smart meters.
Wi-SUN compliant connectivity unlocks drastically lower operating expenditures for large-scale device installations that are crucial for these industries, by providing a mesh network architecture which minimizes the direct cellular connections for machines without having to compromise on bandwidth, security or throughput. Pelion Device Management affirms that the smart meters can be updated and maintained over-the-air across their multi-year lifecycles.
